Creating a 3D Mock-Up in Photoshop — post content
2026 Update. This post was originally published in 2014; as of May 2026, context has been added in line with current practices in Turkey's digital marketing and web technologies industry. The information below is practical, applied advice that remains valid in 2026, under the Technology Agenda category.

1. Open the Mock-Up File
As the first step, we open the mock-up file in which we will place the packaging design. This file usually contains a transparent layer that indicates the area where your design will be placed.2. Find the Smart Object Layer
In your mock-up file, the layer where your packaging design will be placed is usually defined as a smart object. This layer allows you to place and edit your design correctly.- Find the smart object layer and double-click on it.
3. Place Your Design Inside the Smart Object
- When the smart object opens, a new window will appear. There will be an empty area, or if a previous design is in place, you can delete it.
- Now, drag and drop your own packaging design into this window or use the File > Place command to add your packaging design to this area.
4. Sizing and Positioning
- Adjust the size of your design so it looks natural on the mock-up. Don't forget that your packaging design should fit perfectly to the edges.
- If necessary, you can rotate, align, and correctly resize your design with Ctrl+T (or Cmd+T on Mac).
5. Save the Edits
After placing your design correctly, save the smart object window you opened (Ctrl+S / Cmd+S) and close it. This action will reflect your design onto the mock-up file.6. Adjust Colour and Light Effects
For your design to look more natural on the mock-up, sometimes the shadow and light effects need to be adjusted. To make your packaging design look 3D, carefully adjust the shadow and reflection layers in particular.7. Check the Final Look
Finally, check all the layers in your mock-up file and make sure that your design looks natural and professional. Your packaging design will now look like a real product!8. Save and Share
Once your design is finalised, save your visual at high resolution (as JPEG, PNG, or PDF) and share it with your customers or on your social media accounts as needed. In this way, you simulate how your packaging design will look in the real world. This process makes your design look more professional and helps you better explain to your customers what the final product will be like. [gallery ids="1269,1270,1271,1272,1273"]
Why this topic matters in 2026
Turkey's technology agenda field has gone through three core shifts between 2024 and 2026: (1) mobile-first user behaviour reached 78% of the market, (2) AI-powered content generation and analysis tools went mainstream, (3) with KVKK, e-Commerce 2.0 and Turkish Lira improvements, the cost-to-impact balance of a digital presence has fundamentally shifted for small and mid-sized businesses. The principles described in this post still apply at the execution level under 2026 conditions — only the tools and service providers in use have been updated.
Quick checklist for 2026
- Mobile-first: Test design and content architecture first at 390-430px screen widths; desktop is secondary.
- Performance budget: LCP < 2.0s, CLS < 0.05, INP < 150ms — Core Web Vitals thresholds tightened in 2026.
- AI integration: Embed Claude/GPT-4-class assistants for content generation, visual optimisation and customer support; not one-off prompts but a continuous flow.
- Legal compliance: KVKK disclosure text, cookie consent (TCF v2.2), and double opt-in (DOI) email sign-ups are required.
- Measurement: The GA4 + Meta Conversion API + server-side tracking trio is now standard; GA4 alone is no longer sufficient.
- Branding: Rather than a single logo, a dynamic brand system (colour, typography, motion) stands out on social channels.
